Boleslawiec
stoneware originated as a folk art in the early 1800s in Silesia,
then a part of Germany. The village of Boleslawiec is now a part
of Poland, where the local artisiansstill individually handcraft
and hand paint each piece.
The techniques are the same techniques
used 250 years ago. Signature pieces, created by the top artists,
are especially unique.
This durable stoneware will not crack or
chip easily. This stoneware is created from white clay and fired
in coal and gas ovens at temperatures in excess of 1350 degrees
centigrade.
